Discussion
- Come Prepared
- Attendees are encouraged to read enough of the book to participate actively in the discussion. While finishing the book is ideal, we understand that life happens—your thoughts and experiences are enough to contribute meaningfully.
- Contribute Thoughtfully
- Share your thoughts, reflections, and questions during the discussion. Your perspective enriches the group's understanding and makes the conversation more engaging for everyone.
- Stay Focused
- Discussions should center on the book and its themes. While occasional tangents are natural, we aim to focus on the reading to respect everyone's preparation and time.
- We know this is also a social event, and enthuiastically make time to socialize and catch up before and after the book discussion.
- Be Respectful
- Listen attentively to others and foster a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Disagreeing is okay—just do so politely and with an open mind.
- Encourage Balance
- Be mindful of allowing everyone a chance to speak. If you notice someone hasn't had a turn to share, invite their thoughts or leave space for them to jump in.
Discussion Leaders
- One person will serve as the discussion leader each month. This role involves preparing a few thoughtful questions and guiding the group's conversation. The questions don't have to be complicated or academic—they are just prompts to get the discussion going!
- The group in attendance will choose the discussion leader for the meeting in two months.
- If you cannot attend but want to be considered, email Annaeka before the meeting. Your name will be included in the selection process.
Book Selection
- The discussion leader for the next meeting will bring two books from the “Recommended” list to the meeting consideration. Yes, discussion leaders may also submit books to the “Recommended” list!
- Attendees will collaboratively select one of these books for the next month's reading.
Meeting Schedule
- Meetings are held on the 4th Saturday of each month, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
- The discussion leader for each meeting will choose and confirm the meeting location at least one month in advance.
